HAWC Search for High-mass Microquasars

چکیده
Microquasars with high-mass companion stars are promising very-high-energy (VHE; 0.1-100 TeV) gamma-ray emitters, but their behaviors above 10 TeV poorly known. Using the High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) observatory, we search for excess emission coincident positions of known microquasars (HMMQs). No significant is observed LS 5039, Cygnus X-1, X-3, and SS 433 1,523 days HAWC data. We set most stringent limit obtained to date on each individual source. Under assumption that HMMQs produce gamma rays via a common mechanism, have performed source-stacking searches, considering two different scenarios: I) luminosity fraction $\epsilon_\gamma$ microquasar jet luminosity, II) produced by relativistic electrons up-scattering radiation field star in magnetic $B$. obtain $\epsilon_\gamma < 5.4\times 10^{-6}$ scenario I, which tightly constrains models suggest observable high-energy neutrino HMMQs. In case II, non-detection VHE yields strong field, challenges synchrotron as dominant mechanism between keV MeV.

High-mass microquasars and low-latitude γ-ray sources
Population studies of unidentified EGRET sources suggest that there exist at least three different populations of galactic gamma-ray sources. One of these populations is formed by young objects distributed along the galactic plane with a strong concentration toward the inner spiral arms of the Galaxy. Variability, spectral and correlation analysis indicate that this population is not homogeneou...

متن کاملHigh energy processes in microquasars
Microquasars are X-ray binary stars with the capability to generate relativistic jets. It is expected that microquasars are γ-ray sources, because of the analogy with quasars and because the theoretical models predict emission at such energy range. In addition, from observational arguments, there are two microquasars that appear as the possible counterparts for two unidentified high-energy γ-ra...
متن کاملModels for gamma-ray production in low-mass microquasars
Unlike high-mass gamma-ray binaries, low-mass microquasars lack external sources of radiation and matter that could produce high-energy emission through interactions with relativistic particles. In this work we consider the synchrotron emission of protons and leptons that populate the jet of a low-mass microquasar. In our model photohadronic and inverse Compton (IC) interactions with synchrotro...
متن کاملMicroquasars as high-energy gamma-ray sources
Galactic microquasars are certainly one of the most recent additions to the field of high energy astrophysics and have attracted increasing interest over the last decade. However, the high energy part of the spectrum of microquasars is the most poorly known, mainly due the lack of sensitive instrumentation in the past. Microquasars are now primary targets for all of the observatories working in...
